Bus diaries

Sitting on the bus, northbound to Santa Rosa in afternoon traffic, I started to have wonderful flashbacks of last summer. I think the constant string of pretty big life changing events following last years road trips and country hopping sort of made me forget a lot of the tiny details from events like my greyhound trip north to Portland I took last August.
That fucking nightmare of a trip, totaling 18 hours by the time I got off in Eugene, was actually sprinkled with a bunch of pretty funny horrible events. I shared some jerky with a 17 year old traveling back to Texas. His mom had just died, but it was all good, he hated her anyways and scored a Walkman at a garage sale for a couple bucks so it was all gravy. He advised me to stock up on gum, I was going to need it. (was there a lot of making out on gray hound buses? I didnt get any gum and seemed to make it all right) half way through the trip on a cigarette break a drunk punk chick asked me to take care of her because she didn't know where we were. Honestly I didn't know where we were either, but I told her I'd let her know when we got to Oregon. We shared a cigarette with another kid on the bus and all got back to our seats. I'm not going to lie, did a pretty bad job of watching over that girl, because when we got held up an hour off the Oregon border at 1am she got off the bus and hopped into a truckers cab and off they went. Well, she probably got to Oregon faster then we did. 8 hours later, after being slept on by a chubby kid with dreads, I arrived in Eugene greeted by Hannah with a box of doughnuts and coffee, and without touching either, immediately passed out the second I sat on the bed. That bus ride, even though I hated it, actually wields some great memories. Became the most hated man on the bus in Sacramento, met some Irish couple that had been traveling by bus for a month( and weren't to stoked on it) saw a lot of pee in bottles, made up English words to 2 sigur ros albums, and possibly let a girl get kidnapped. Honestly, if I could I would grab my bag and do it all again right now, but today, I'm Santa Rosa bound.
